“Florence Littauer was an accomplished author and loving counselor to millions of parents and married couples through the years. Someone sent me a recording of her speaking to a large audience, and I liked it so much that I aired it repeatedly on Focus on the Family. She was deeply loved within the Christian community.”

Florence Littauer is a true legend! Her book Personality Plus was life changing for me.  She was a trailblazer and opened the door for thousands of women to develop their leadership and communication skills.  And she was a masterful communicator. She spoke with dignity, humor and shared practical biblical truths. Several times, I invited her to present her CLASSeminar in my church where she trained my staff, and others in Christian leadership, in speaking skills. Her work on The Personalities has saved relationships worldwide. I’ve shared the concepts and the popular Personality Profile with audiences everywhere and especially encouraged pastors to equip themselves with her teachings. I am saddened by her death but am grateful that her work will live on.” I am sure she heard the words “Well Done Thou Good and Faithful Servant” as she entered Heaven’s gate.

My greatest mentor was and is Florence Littauer. I watched how much she cared as she served others. I heard her say that her greatest joy would be for one of her students to surpass whatever she did. Most of my writer/speaker friends were mentored and taught by Florence as well. She will be missed by many, but she will continue to minister through those of us she taught.

It was a tremendous privilege to publish books by Florence Littauer. During that time, she became not merely an author, but a significant mentor and a friend. Publishing Florence’s books was a tremendous experience. Not only because of her dynamic personality and way with words but because what she wrote carried with it such meaning and life transformation for her reader. She opened “silver boxes” for each person who touched her books or heard her speak about her books. When Florence asked me to attend the CLASSeminar, I witnessed first-hand her joy of helping people understand themselves and strive for excellence in what they did. Her CLASS events gave me, her publisher, an inside look at how people responded to Florence’s teaching and how much they appreciated her books. I’m grateful not merely as one of Florence’s publishers but also to have experienced personal change through her life and work.

Heaven gained a gifted communicator for Christ. Florence Littauer took me and Bill under her wing early in our writing and speaking career. Before our first book, Pure Pleasure: Making Your MARRIAGE a Great Affair, was released, we went through her amazing CLASSeminar. But she kept giving to us: tips to look better, speak better, connect better. She extended her platform and influence to share it with us. She recommended us to many churches in those early years. She called us her spiritual kids. And her precious husband Fred, gave my hubby so many tips on the privilege (and skills) on walking alongside a gifted (A.K.A. strong, driven Choleric) wife. We will always be grateful for Florence and Fred.

I met Florence 40 years ago when she took me under her tutelage and spoke truth into my broken life. She believed in me long before I had the courage to believe in myself. Her generosity of heart, her passion for learning, and her love of the privilege of platform work, made an indelible impression on my life. She was a dynamic mentor and dear friend.

I was honored to work on Florence’s book, Personality Plus, which Revell published in 1983. Through a few updates, this classic has been in print for over 37 years and continues to help millions of readers better understand themselves and be difference makers at home, at work and in their communities. Florence was every publisher’s dream author: she was a relentless marketing machine and left every conversation with an encouraging word of appreciation for all we were doing to increase exposure and sales for her life-changing message. I join Florence’s family, friends, colleagues and fans in celebrating a life well-lived for this good and faithful servant of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

There can be no adequate way to count the impact Florence Littauer has had on millions of people. I am one who stands with that throng who hung on her every word. At a time when I needed guidance, inspiration, and practical steps she generously offered her life and ministry experience. The power of her testimony, books, her strength, influence, fortitude, humor, and charisma are just a few qualities that stand out to me all these years later. I’ve spoken to thousands in groups large and small, authored books and honed hundreds of talks—thanks in no small part to her influence and example. It is incalculable—her impact as it ripples around the world over and over to this day. I am so thankful to have sat under her life and training. Her huge heart and generous spirit remain with me all my days.

She was an awesome mentor and encourager for thousands of ministers as they sought ways to spread the Love of Christ. So grateful to have been mentored by the incredible, amazingly knowledgeable, and laughter-filled Florence Littauer. God knew what was ahead to be equipped in becoming a Representative for Women of Faith, traveling to many cities across the US to promote the conferences. Then, establishing the Modern Day Princess ministry that called me to speak publicly and soon became a published writer. Florence taught me to be confident in what God had called me to do. She also revealed to me that I had a story to tell about my own life…self-discovery. Her words of confidence in the gifts God instilled within me gave me the confidence to move forward and take the risks that have brought great rewards. Forever thankful for her belief in me. She equipped me to enjoy an impossible dream.

Thank You, Lord, for the life and ministry of Florence Littauer! She was a tremendous influence on my life personally and very instrumental in training me for my ministry of teaching, speaking, and writing. We had the joy of hosting Florence at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary for several women’s conferences as well as CLASS seminars. Her messages gave inspiration and instruction, and her casual interactions with participants gave encouragement and hope. Her testimony led people to Jesus, and her biblical truths helped women dig deeper into God’s Word. So grateful for her bigger-than-life personality and her commitment to excellence!

As I am remembering, I have called Florence Littauer my mentor and friend for over three decades. I have watched Florence in action whether in her CLASSeminars (and I attended more than one and encouraged my sisters, daughter, staff, and women I have mentored to do the same), in the educational venues in which I have worked—a Bible college and two seminaries, or on a myriad of public platforms! She was an amazing and consistently superior communicator with audiences of any size or makeup. Florence had the ability to develop and deliver a message—factual and relevant content accented with colorful and authentic illustration—so that no one in the audience was missed. You might revel in new insights, laugh and delight in a true and memorable story, have imprinted in your brain a one-liner you would remember forever, and finish with a commitment to do whatever you needed to do! One of her most unique gifts was to give every listener exactly what was needed by that individual heart—no one left her presence without taking something away! However, far dearer to my heart than her professional excellence and entertaining presentations was the fact that she remained my true friend from the day we met until her translation to the heavenly court. After several years of no connection, she called me in January—just when I needed her—and we talked about family and friends and a myriad of topics and relived memories and blessings! I know that I am a better wife and mother, a more effective communicator and theologian, and certainly a more loving and faithful friend because I have known and learned from an amazing woman!

Bob Barnes, Multi-published author and husband of Emilie Barnes (1938 – 2016)

Emilie and Bob Barnes

Emilie and I met Florence and Fred Littauer in 1975 and immediately became great friends! Our ministries bonded us together. Florence considered Emilie “her sister” and the two shared a special bond in friendship and ministry. Florence was Emilie’s mentor and was instrumental in introducing Emilie to her publisher, Harvest House. Florence had a tremendous impact on the ministry of More Hours In My Day. Florence mentored many women over the years and was an incredible communicator. She was an exceptional woman and led many women to the Lord. She was a great encourager, motivator, offered affirmation and was a great friend to many. Florence truly was “one of a kind!” She finished well and has earned her reward!

I had the distinct privilege of traveling with the Aspiring Women Conference for nearly three years. This is where I met Florence, Fred (he joined us from time to time) and Marita. I learned so much just being with them, and even more by observing and taking in the brilliance that is Florence Littauer. She taught me by her example how to be a better speaker, a kinder friend, and a more loving wife. My dear sweet Florence —you were really amazing! You showed me how to live … now you are showing me how to die with expectancy, dignity, and grace!

I might go as far as to say, with a very big smile, that Florence’s CLASSeminar probably saved my speaking life. I am indebted to her forever. I loved her so much.

Florence will always be my hero! She rocked my world. I met Florence when I was a newlywed in the eighties, and she took me under wing, even before I knew God was calling me to be a writer and a speaker. Her belief in me, as well as her friendship, meant the world to me.

She was truly a wonderful woman with a deep love for Christ and His people, and I have no doubt the impact she made for the Kingdom will only be fully revealed in eternity.

Florence Littauer exuded enthusiasm and love for the Lord as well as demonstrating pure delight in equipping women to be effective communicators. When I was a new professor teaching communication for women, I had the opportunity to attend one of her CLASSeminars, and she left an indelible mark on my thinking. Her ability to create memorable outlines and powerful illustrations was a true gift, and I am delighted to point my students to her materials. What a treasure Mrs. Littauer is and will continue to be for future generations!
